Mumbai: If you are trying to rent a house in Mumbai, get ready for some hassles.
The Mumbai Police are reintroducing an earlier rule making it mandatory for both landlords and tenants to inform the police when renting a house. Once this is done, the local cops visit the house for verification.
The police have made this decision after the sensational Neeraj Grover murder case, but they would also use this to keep an eye on terrorist activities.
DCP Operations, A K Dumbre says, "Lots of people come to Mumbai, not just anti-nationals but even other types of criminals. If we watch where they stay, it will surely help."
Renting a house in Mumbai is already expensive, and difficult, but after the Neeraj Grover case, it's become even harder for those in the entertainment business to rent a place.
Twenty-six-year-old Veer Singh works in a film production company and he has been looking for a house in Mumbai. The popular areas for those in the entertainment line are between Bandra and Andheri, but he's been facing problems finding a place to live in.
"It's because of our timings and all. After this Neeraj Grover case, landlords are not giving us places," says he.
But then there are those who feel that it the concern of landlords is justified.
Nikita Bhat who owns a house that she wants to rent out says, "These single men living like this attract bad company. Landlords should be and need to be careful."
So if you're in showbiz, all one can say these days is: good luck in finding a house in Mumbai.
