Naxals exchange fire with police at Kotmi

Press Trust Of India

Nagpur: Naxalites on Thursday opened fire at Kotmi polling station in Gadchiroli district where repolling commenced this morning.

Security forces retaliated and the subsequent encounter between the two sides lasted for about half an hour in the area, about nine kms from Kasansur, police said. There no casualties on either side.

Kotmi is among the 13 polling stations in Aheri Taluka where repolling was ordered after the polling staff failed to reach the respective destinations on time on October 13 due to obstacles put up by naxals on their way.

The extremists had dug up roads and placed logs on the road during the State Assembly Elections.

Repolling is underway at 22 polling stations in naxal-hit Gadchiroli district.
