New Delhi: The entire drama surrounding weightlifter Laishram Monika Devi's withdrawal from the Indian contingent for the Beijing Olympic Games for allegedly failing a dope test could have been managed better according to the finding of a report filed by former chief election commissioner TS Krishnamurthy.
Krishnamurthy, who was appointed to look into the entire episode on August 13, submitted his report on Friday to Sports Minister MS Gill.
Gill promised that the Ministry will take early action based on findings, and recommendations.
The report doesn't blame anyone in particular for the fiasco though it does condemn the manner in which athletes and sports are handled in India.
Krishnamurthy met Monika, officials of Sports Authority of India (SAI), Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) and also the Sports Ministry.
Monika was withdrawn from the Indian Olympics squad, a day before she was scheduled to leave for Beijing on doping allegations. She was cleared later by the SAI.
