New Delhi: Is the teacher who brutally punished an 11-yr-old girl going to walk free? Shanno's death certificate says she died from a medical condition and not because she was made to stand out in the heat.
The certificate says Shanno died of Encephalitis - a kind of brain disease coupled with seizures and respiratory failure.
While police officials continue to remain silent on the 11-year-old's death, hospital sources say that the girl's post mortem report indicated that the girl may have had a history of respiratory problems and as well as epilepsy and that delay in medical treatment and overreaction to a medicine might have worsened her condition.
But Shanno's father Ayub Khan continues to deny that his daughter had a history of medical problems.
"The post mortem report has been bought. It is a lie. I want justice or I will take matters in my own hands," says the distraught father.
Meanwhile the teacher who allegedly punished Shanno is not willing to step out of her house in Rajlugarhi village of district Sonepat, Haryana. While the teacher's family refused to say anything on camera, the locals came out in the teacher's support saying that all allegations are baseless.
Apart from the post mortem report, the police will be relying heavily on statements of the teacher's co-workers and Shanno's classmates - who say that the teachers in the school Shanno attended regularly subject the children to corporal punishment.
Says a student of the school, Rakesh (name changed), "One day my teacher beat me a lot. After that I never went to school because I was scared."
While hospital authorities claim to have handed over the post mortem report, police officials seem to be treading cautiously.
