Muktsar (Punjab): After the gruesome case of Nithari killings came to light, it appears many more are waiting to be exposed, elsewhere. On Tuesday four decomposed bodies of children aged 9 to 13 were found in a rice mill that had been lying shut for a long time.
The rice mill belongs to senior Congress leader and former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar. The hands and the feet of the four bodies were found tied up and they were believed to be those of labourers, said police on Wednesday.
Police literally stumbled upon the horrendous case when two constables guarding the area during a local mela entered the mill looking for a room to stay in. They noticed a foul smell and informed senior police officials.
“Every year in January, Maghi mela is celebrated in Muktsar. The policemen who came here to guard the area wanted to stay in the rice mill. But when they went inside, they noticed foul smell coming out of a room. They immediately informed two of their colleagues who found the bodies of four children, half burnt and lying there in a semi-decomposed state,” Nageshwar Rao, SSP, Muktsar told CNN-IBN on Wednesday.
Brar, a member of the Congress' national Congress Working Committee (CWC), said he was ready for any probe, including by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), into the unfortunate killing of the children.
“I don't suspect any political rivalry behind this case. A thorough probe must be done in this matter to know the truth. I am ready to cooperate with any probe agency," Brar said.
The bodies were not moved even after 24 hours, as police said it did not want to destroy the forensic evidence from the crime scene. The SSP said that the bodies will be sent for post-mortem on Wednesday, and would be left untouched until the forensic team arrives.
Meanwhile a local woman who claimed to be mother of one of the four victims said she does not suspect anyone behind the killings. “One of them is my son and the rest two are my cousins’ son and daughter. And I don’t suspect anyone behind these killings,” she said.
Police ruled out any political rivalry being there behind the case. “Around eight children have been missing in this area in total. Only after thorough probe would the motive behind these killing be revealed,” said the SSP.
