Resignation never crosedd my mind: Maradona

New Delhi: Diego Maradona affirmed that he never thought about resigning as the coach of the Argentine national team, after his latest conflict with AFA president Julio Grondona.

"I never thought about resigning," Maradona affirmed to the press on Thursday, and he insisted that he wants to count with Oscar Ruggeri as a collaborator for his coaching team, even if Julio Grondona doesn't like the idea.

Maradona indicated that at no moment did he evaluate the possibility of abandoning the position he was designated two weeks ago, in a brief statement to TyC Sports.

"'El Diez" will officially debut as the coach of the Argentine national team in a friendly match with Scotland in Glasgow next Wednesday. For that match his assistants will be Alejandro Mancuso and Miguel Angel Lemme.

Maradona told AFA that his intentions were to count with Ruggeri as his assistant, but Julio Grondona completely rejected that possibility, because he doesn't see eye to eye with the three-time World Cup veteran.

In the past Ruggeri has criticized Grondona, including last year, when he stated that the president should abandon his position, because he isn't up to the task.
