Riches to rags story of former model, now beggar

New Delhi: Gitanjali Nagpal, once a successful model, is now a pauper. Suspected drug abuse in the early 90s, just when she as at her peak, and opportunities were abundant, has brought her to the footpath.

Despite the heavy media presence, Gitanjali was clueless about the happenings around her.

Her case is a grim reminder of drug abuse being rampant in the fashion world.

"In Fashion, drugs are common,” said designer, Ranna Gill.

Gitanjali's family lives in Delhi. But they have now snapped all ties with her. They also kept their doors shut to the media. When asked about the former model, neighbours were clueless about Gitanjali's existence.

"We didn't even know that they had a third daughter. We just got to know when we read the papers today,” said a neighbour, R R Vij.

A daughter of a naval officer, Gitanjali studied at the Mount Carmel School and later at the premier Lady Sri Ram College. She also did a course in fashion designing from the South Delhi Polytechnic.
