Mumbai: The Reliance Industries Annual General Meeting, which is the first since the Ambani brothers ended their bitter five-year battle, will take place on Friday in Mumbai.
All eyes are on Mukesh Ambani's RIL AGM as speculation is ripe that Anil Ambani will make an appearance.
When the Ambani brothers parted company in June 2005 investors were worried about the future of the Reliance business group. Now five years down, as RIL heads towards it's 36th Annual General meeting, the focus is back on the the two brothers.
CNN-IBN learns that Mukesh's focus at the AGM will be to brief the shareholders on the truce with his younger brother Anil, and to add to it, is the string of achievements for RIL which include a favorable Supreme Court verdict on the KG basin gas tussle, completion of the Jamnagar Refinery, commercialisation of the KG-D6 Block and the roll out of RIL's retail business.
Besides the foray into newer areas like telecom, broadband, healthcare, education and alternate energy sources will also be discussed.
Moreover, Anil or no Anil the one smiling face to be surely present will be that of a more relieved Kokilaben, the mother of the Ambani brothers.
The twist and turns of the Ambani saga:
It all started in 2005, when the gas MoU was signed between both brothers. Within a few months, in 2006 Anil's RNRL filed a case against RIL over gas supply.
In October 2007, the government approved a gas price at $ 4.20 per unit.
In June 2009, the Bombay High Court asked both RIL and RNRL to honour the 2005 MoU. Unsatisfied the same year on July 4, Anil filed a petition in the Supreme Court.
Within days the war intensifies with Anil alleging that Petroleum Minister Murli Deora was favouring Mukesh.
Then in October 2009 the Supreme Court began hearing the case and all arguments ended in December.
But it wasn't until May 2010 when the apex court finally directed the Ambanis to sort out the gas war within six weeks.
On May 23, 2010 the Ambanis scrapped the 'non-compete' agreement, and then in June, Anil withdrew the Rs 10,000 crore defamation case against Mukesh.
Then in a surprise reunion both brothers were found holidaying together in South Africa just a few days back.
