New Delhi: There has been a fresh twist to the Rizwan-Ur-Rahman death probe in Kolkata.
Priyanka, the widow of the computer graphics teacher – whose mysterious death has led to fingers being pointed at senior Kolkata police officials – on Wednesday broke her silence and told the West Bengal Human Rights Commission that there was no pressure by the police on her.
Chairperson of the State Women's Commission Jashodhara Bagchi told CNN-IBN that Priyanka also denied having ever said that Rizwan had committed suicide.
Priyanka is understood to have said that though she was summoned by the police after her marriage to Rizwan on August 18, no police officer ill-treated her.
In a statement that comes as a relief to the police and Priyanka's father - businessman Ashok Todi – she also said she had returned to her father's house on her own after learning that he was ill.
The nine-member team, led by Bagchi, met Priyanka at her Salt Lake residence. Priyanka is also understood to have told her that she was traumatised by Rizwanur's death and still loved him and was “missing him”.
She also did not like the media publicity over her husband's death and wanted to live a normal life, the commission member said.
Remaining incommunicado since her husband's death, Priyanka is reported to have left for Tirupati with her parents.
Rizwanur was found dead besides railway tracks at Dum Dum far from his home in Park Circus in Kolkata on September 21.
Two days later, Commissioner of Kolkata Police Prasun Mukherjee admitted that the couple were threatened by police officers after their marriage and Rizwanur was told to part with his wife.
He had also admitted that Rizwanur and Priyanka were summoned to Lalbazar, the police headquarters, thrice on September 1, 4 and 8.
West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had ordered a judicial inquiry on September 27 and Mukherjee’s statements defending the police.
