This after mounting public pressure on the state government over the state police's handling of the murder probe.
On Friday, CPI-M top brass met to discuss leads into the 30-year-old's death investigations.
Senior politburo member Jyoti Basu had then condemned comments of Mukherjee where he had defended the police force.
“I condemn the comments of police commissioner Prasun Mukherjee in the case where he defended the police force and said that ‘we are professionals and we work this way,” Basu had said.
Prasun mukherjee is a close confidant of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee.
The government has already come down heavily on the state police with two police officials being suspended. Two other policemen are also being interrogated.
The role of the city police has come under the scanner in the case following allegations that two deputy commissioners, Gyanwant Singh and Ajoy Kumar, were among four policemen who had threatened Rizwanur to separate from his Hindu wife, Priyanka.
Police sources have also claimed Todi distributed 86 T-shirts free to the city police on June 26 for an anti-drug rally.
Rizwanur in letters to human rights groups had reportedly named top police officials of pressuring him to severe relations with wife Priyanka, who is industrialist Ashok Todi’s daughter. The couple got married on August 18 against the wishes of Priyanka’s family.
Rizwanur, a graphic designer, was found dead on the on the railway track in Dum Dum under mysterious circumstances in the outskirts of Kolkata over two weeks ago.
