Patna: Supporters of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi learnt the hard way that they can't build a temple to honour of their favourite politicians during election season.
Bihar Police officials arrested a group of Lalu-Rabri supporters in Bihar's Rohtas district telling them that building temple in honour the couple was a violation of the election modal code of conduct.
"We are their supporters and don't know what is a modal code of conduct. We are just supporters and nothing else. We worship them as god and are even ready to be hanged," said Lalu supporter Rajeshwar Yadav.
The day after puja was performed at the proposed temple site with much fanfare, the local administration woke up from its slumber. Rulebooks were hastily referred to and decision to crackdown on the proposed Lalu-Rabri temple was taken.
"They have been arrested for violating the modal code of conduct. They were constructing a temple in honour of Lalu and Rabri," Bhola Paswan, Baddi Thana SHO, said.
But the police crackdown has not deterred them from their resolve.
"We consider him our god. We have already started constructing the temple," said Rajeshwar Yadav.
But the state government cracking down on Lalu-Rabri supporters has only given an issue to RJD for the coming election.
