London: Arsene Wenger on Monday has given the clearest indication yet that he is willing to listen to offers for Robin van Persie and that he now wants the situation resolved well before the start of the new English Premier League season.
Wenger told reporters: "We are very, very ambitious. You know that. Not only very ambitious but also very proud of the way we run our club. Van Persie is a world-class striker and I am a big supporter of him. I have supported him throughout.
"He has one year left and is in demand but our desire is to keep him, however, we will do what is in best interest of the club. If you have a decoder in your head you can decode that. The official transfer deadline is August 31 but then we can create an internal deadline."
Manchester United, Manchester City and Juventus have all already bid for Van Persie but the highest offer so far is pounds 12 million, around pounds 10 million short of Arsenal's minimum valuation.
Wenger has already bought strikers Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud, and Spain forward Fernando Llorente is also being tracked while Ganso, the Brazil playmaker, was watched during the 2-0 win against Team GB on Friday night.
