Defending champion Andy Roddick has been knocked out of the Cincinnati Masters. The world number three lost his third round match to Spaniard David Ferrer in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

Australia's Lleyton Hewitt is also through to the next round. He beat Austrian Jurgen Meltzer in striaght sets 6-3, 6-3. Hewitt will now take on Carlos Moya of Spain in the quarter finals. Moya beat Juan Martin Del Potro 7-5, 3-6, 7-5.

Meanwhile World number one Roger Federer is also through to the quarter finals. He beat Marcos Bhagdatis in a tough two setter. Federer had to dig deep to wrap up the match 7-6, 7-5.

"Yeah it was a tough match today. Really struggled with my rhythm. I think him as well, it was an awkward match all the way from the beginning to the end. So extremely happy I came through, especially in straight sets. Quite a surprise for me but I did win the big points and that was key. So, it is great. I am still in the tournament so it gives me a chance to play better in the next match," said Federer.
