New Delhi: The seeds continued their dominance on the hard courts at the Rogers Cup in Montreal with wins in the pre-quarterfinal round for Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Roddick.
Federer's dominance continued against Italian qualifier Fabio Fognini as he stormed into the quarter-finals.
Unseeded Fognini had beaten 13th seed Andy Murray in the previous round, but was simply outclassed by the World No. 1.
Federer cruised to victory in just 45 minutes 6-1, 6-1. Next up for Federer is the dangerous former World No. 1 Australian Llyeton Hewitt.
In the bottom half of the draw, Rafael Nadal moved closer to a showdown with the World No. 1. His opponent Paul-Henri Mathieu produced some excellent tennis to take the first set 6-3.
But Nadal battled back in the second to level the match at one set apiece, and was too good in the decider, winning 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 to reach the last eight.
Fifth seed Andy Roddick also reached the last eight. Roddick was in sublime form as he cruised past Marcos Baghdatis 6-3, 6-2 to clinch his 400th career win.
