When it comes to deciding the current greatest footballer on the planet, it has always been down to two names: Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. But unfortunately for Ronaldo, most people think Messi is in a league of his own and far more superior than the Portugese forward.
But off the field, when it comes to what the fans feel in social media, it is Ronaldo who appears to the real king. The Real Madrid star, who is set to win his 100th cap for Portugal this week, has become the first sportsman ever to reach over 50 million Facebook 'likes'.
The former Manchester United player celebrated the achievement with his followers: “Reaching 50,000,000 likes is unbelievable … I want to thank you, you, you, and everyone who have been supporting me all these years. I really want us to keep sharing all the good moments together – and the best is still to come. Thank you all."

Messi is in at second place with 38 million \'likes\' which is surprisingly 12 million less than Ronaldo, Real Madrid\'s icon.
