Gurgaon: Dr Amit Dewan is in critical condition in a Gurgaon hospital after some youth ran over him with their car on Wednesday night.
Dewan was parking his car outside his home in Gurgaon's Sector 10 when the Tata Safari driven by the youth reportedly bumped into it.
The damage to his car has been minimal but it's because he chose to object that he's battling for life right now.
The Tata Safari that bumped into his car then reversed into him and he was dragged along with the car to the end of the road where he was found in and unconscious state ten minutes later.
Dr Diwan has suffered multiple fractures and head injuries.
Says MD, Kalyani Hospital (where Dr Diwan has been admitted), Dr Subhash Khanna, "Dr Diwan had a clot in the brain, which we have removed. There are fractures in his legs and he is on ventilator support. He is much better now, but his condition is still critical."
"Dr Amit Diwan's father, BR Diwan says, "The papers are calling it an accident, but that's not true. Our cars never collided with each other. It was a case of high-handedness. Those two just wanted to show us how far they could go." |
The police have identified the Tata Safari's owner as an engineer named Nagender, who is absconding, but his friend Jitesh, who was also in the car that night, is in custody now.
Says Gurgaon SP, Nagender is the owner of the Tata Safari. We are yet to arrest him. But we've arrested his friend Jitesh and we will be producing him in court."
According to eyewitnesses, Jitesh is a resident of the same locality as Dr Diwan.
Both Nagender and Jitesh were reportedly drunk when the incident occurred and their moment of road rage has turned this festival season into a period of trial for Dr Diwan's family.
