Hema to play Gwalior queen in next film

Mumbai: Her sixtieth birthday is around the corner but Hema Malini has the drive to embark upon one of the most adventurous projects in her career.

In Ek Thi Rani Aisi Bhi, audiences will see her playing Rajmata Vijayraje Scindia, the dynamic queen of Gwalior and mother of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje .

The film's muhurat saw several politicians extending their support to the venture. They included BJP leader Sushma Swaraj who began the proceedings.

‘Dream Girl’ Hema was evidently excited about the project, an adaptation of Mridula Sinha's book Rajpath se Lokpath Par.

"It’s a challenging role as its a real role and not a fictitious one. People have seen Rajamta, so it’s very difficult for a artist to depict that. So I am going to meet all her close ones and ape her mannerisms and then only proceed for shooting,” she said.

Directed by Gul Bahar Singh, the film will also see veteran actor Vinod Khanna playing Hema's husband character, Maharaj Jivajirao.

"I am very excited and I feel more such films should be made as our history is so vast. It should be made into more films and can be used as documentaries for the coming generation,” Khanna said.
