14 crore fraud send Kingfisher into tailspin

New Delhi: Online fraud is increasingly being perpetrated on companies. The latest to fall into this trap is Vijay Mallya’s Kingfisher Airlines.

Kingfisher has filed a police complaint that it has lost more than Rs 14 crore in a case of e-ticketing fraud, over the past ten months.

Airline officials have said that a gang posing as travel agents booked tickets on the airline’s website. They used credit cards, mobile phones and e-mail accounts that were either fake or stolen. Passengers had no idea of the fake transactions.

The gang made it a point to not use any credit card more than three times.

All transactions took place in Delhi.

Kingfisher has registered a formal complaint at the Palam Vihar police station.

Delhi Police Spokesperson, Rajan Bhagat, said, “Airlines have been informed to take precautions.”

Referring to cheaper air travel deals usually available on websites, Bhagat added,”The public, too, needs to be careful about such offers.”
