newindianexpressExpress News Service

KEONJHAR: Three armed miscreants looted Rs 20 lakh at gunpoint from a bank when the cash was being shifted from one branch to another in Keonjhar district on Tuesday.

The trio fired about six rounds to terrorise the employees carrying the cash and decamped with the booty outside the Suakati branch of Bank of India under Keonjhar Sadar police station.

The money was snatched away when two employees from the bank’s main branch at Keonjhar accompanied by a security guard and driver reached the Suakati branch with the cash in a jeep. The miscreants also took away the gun from the security guard.

After the swift operation, the robbers fled from the scene and are believed to have proceeded towards a forest path.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot and efforts are on to nab the culprits.

A few days ago, some unknown miscreants had looted a jewellery shop in Suakati. Four months ago, miscreants had targeted the Banspal Baitari Bank.
