New Delhi: The Congress-led UPA Government has praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh for their role in tribal development.
In its annual report, the Tribal Welfare Ministry has said that organisations affiliated to the RSS have done good work in tribal areas.
Though the Congress usually criticises groups associated with the RSS, this new-found bonhomie between the Congress-led UPA Government and the RSS is being seen as a welcome sign.
"We are grateful to the UPA government for their praise. They have started a very healthy tradition in politics that will have a good effect on all following governments,” Former editor of RSS mouthpiece Panchjanya, Devendra Swarup, says.
The seventh chapter of the ministry's report says that some nationalistic organisations have been working selflessly for the development of tribals.
The report has praised 14 NGOs of which four are affiliated to the RSS. These are the All India Tribal Welfare association, Sewa Bharti, Vidha Bharti and the Deendayal Research Institute.
But despite a positive report, the Congress maintains its original stand.
“If only four organisations are working well amongst so many organizations, then I feel this is a very serious issue. If organisations affiliated to the Sangh Parivar are not working properly they should be removed,” Congress spokesperson, Rajiv Shukla, says.
The Sangh Parivar leader M G Vaidya has already been praising Sonia Gandhi's leadership. Also the Parivar recently said that the Manmohan Singh Government would complete its five-year term.
This new relationship between the RSS and the UPA has become a major topic of speculation and debate in political circles.
