Ahmedabad: Nearly one month after RTI activist Amit Jethwa's murder, Gujarat Police Crime Branch on Monday detained BJP MP Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki's nephew, Shiva Solanki. Amit Jethwa's family now looks at the Gujarat government with a suspicious eye for his brutal murder.
It’s nearly a month since RTI Activist Amit Jethwa's brutal murder and his widow Alpa's tears have still not dried. Amit's family has alleged that Junagadh BJP MP Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki had a hand in his killing. But Solanki hasn't even been questioned by the police. Alpa says she feels increasingly helpless.
"He did everything for the people. I am now left alone with my two children. He's gone. What will we do now," said Amit Jethwa's Widow Alpa Jethwa.
Amit Jethwa had named Dinubhai Solanki in a recent Public Interest Litigation over illegal mining in the Gir Forest. Amit’s father alleges that a coterie of state politicians, including disgraced former home minister Amit Shah, were involved in his son's murder.
"If Amit Jethava was alive on August 2, the entire link of Amit Shah and the mines mafia would have got exposed. Get a record of the calls they made and everything will be clear," said Bhikhubhai Jethwa, Amit's Father.
The BJP MP has huge investments in the stone mining business of the region. Solanki and his relatives have at least five mining leases in the region. This allegedly illegal limestone mine, situated adjacent to the Gir sanctuary, is said to belong to the BJP strongman. CNN-IBN made several attempts to contact Solanki, but he could not be reached. He has also not been attending Parliament.
Meanwhile Jethwa's associates have asked the Governor for an independent probe.
"Our demand is that either have an inquiry commission or hand over investigation to the CBI," said Bakabhai Dhakana, Amit Jethwa's Friend and Member of GNYC.
Jethwa was killed on the evening of July 20 near Gujarat High Court. Ahmedabad police official said that some unidentified men on a motorcycle fired at Jethwa killing him.
RTI activist Amit Jethwa's family is sure that police investigations will never lead to Dinubhai Boghabhai Solanki and his men, as they are far too powerful and well connected. The family says nothing short of an independent inquiry will bring out the real truth behind his killing.
