Ruchika case: CBSE panel finds school guilty

CNN-IBN

New Delhi: A Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) panel has found Chandigarh's Sacred Heart School guilty of violating a series of rules by expelling Ruchika Girhotra.

The CBSE expert committee has found that the school violated the rules and procedures while expelling Ruchika from the school on the ground that she did not pay the school fees.

Sources tell CNN-IBN that the panel has recommended strict action against the school including a strict warning, a heavy fine and even disaffiliation from CBSE. It has also recommended an inquiry against the then principal of the school.

Sacred Heart had expelled Ruchika citing "non-payment of fees" in 1990. The move had come soon after she had lodged a police complaint against the then Haryana DGP SPS Rathore for molesting her.

The panel's recommendations come just days after a Chandigarh court increased Rathore's sentence to 18 months. Earlier, Rathore was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment after a court found him guilty of molesting Ruchika 20. Rathore had filed an appeal against the quantum of punishment.

Ruchika Girhotra committed suicide in 1993.
