His (Rathore’s) lawyer wife, Abha Rathore, continued to raise the name of Veena, a mysterious woman character, in court.
Abha asserted that there was more to the suicide and the role played by a lady called Veena, who was allegedly Ruchika's stepmother, should be probed.
Counsel for Sewa Singh and former counsel for SPS Rathore, Ajay Jain said, “We have raised this demand that so far as the location of Veena is concerned, it needs all sorts of probe and it needs to be investigated where Veena is.”
Rathore has alleged that Ruchika did not get along well with her stepmother and used to stay depressed because of this. They want the role of Veena traced.
However, Ruchika's family and lawyers are angry at this attempt to scandalise and turn the focus from the convict.
Lawyer for Ruchika’s family, Pankaj Bhardwaj said, “The story of the prosecution is that this man (Rathore) prompted, goaded, instigated and made her (Ruchika’s ) life so hell that she committed suicide. Why are we not on that particular point? Why are we looking here and there on characters? Let us go to the truth.”
Interestingly, Veena's name prominently figures in the inquest report prepared by Panchkula police.
In the report, Veena is mentioned as Subhash Girhotra's wife. Also Girhotra in his cross examination had stated that he went out with Veena at 12 in the night on December 28.
When he came back the next morning he discovered Ruchika in a critical condition in her room. Aradhana's father says Rathore has fabricated this.
Father of Aradhna (Ruchika’s friend), Anand Prakash said, “By implanting fictitious characters, they are only telling lies and they are still wanting to same Mr Rathore. Veena is totally an unrelated character.”
Haryana government has sought more time to respond in this case and that helped Rathore to get another breather.
