New Delhi: The scramble for nursery admissions began in the national capital, on Saturday, with schools starting to sell admission forms. This year the admission process has been delayed by over a month; something that parents aren't too happy about.
Instead of making holiday plans this season, Shweta Jain is tutoring her four-year-old twins at home. With the sale of nursery admission forms starting on the 1st day of the New Year, she's just one of the many parents gearing up for the rush.
This year will definitely see long queues at schools with parents having to forego the option of visiting all the schools they planned to on a particular day. Many of them are now asking why it can't all be more streamlined?
As the Right to Education Act bans any sort of screening of students, .the HRD Ministry had suggested a lottery system for admissions this year. The Delhi government, however, has stuck to the 100 point system with a few minor changes..
Twenty-five per cent seats will be reserved for economically weaker sections. Random selection system will be followed for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) category. There will be a 20 per cent management quota out of the 75 per cent general category seats
The points system will continue for students in the general category with weightage given to factors like proximity, sibling, transfer case, single parent, alumni etc..
"First the priority should be given to the distance, because they are small kids. Secondly, the performance of a school and reputation of a particular school are few factors they should keep in mind. As per the government instructions they have given January 15 as the submission date for all forms, " said Principal of Sharda Goel ASN School.
So this New Year here's wishing all parents and tiny tots in the Capital - the very best in their scramble for their admissions!
