Jaipur: Jaipur Police Commissioner BL Soni on Tuesday said that Salman Rushdie's live video conference at the Jaipur Literature Festival has been cancelled despite Rajasthan Police's assurance to the organisers to provide security.
"Protestors were not in agreement with the organisers, and the organisers realised that there was quite a resistance to the video conference. The organisers didn't want any harm to the visitors," said Soni.
Assuring that a large contingent of police force was deployed at the venue, Soni said, "We were ready with adequate strength. There were few people who had gathered in few places and people had anxiety on the matter."
"We had given assurance to the organisers on protection. We were fully equipped," he added.
