New Delhi: The cold war is over and Russia is no longer the enemy of the US, said President George Bush at the G8 summit in Germany.
The trip to Europe is "a chance for me to see old friends, make new friends, and talk about an agenda that is based upon freedom and the obligation, for those of us who benefit from our free societies, to help less fortunate people," AFP reported Bush saying this past week.
But his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin was not impressed. On Monday, he warned that US plans for missile defense in central Europe was a Cold War move.
He warned that Russia would point missiles at European targets if the US expands its nuclear defences near its borders.
But Bush continues to call Putin a "friend," though Putin went so
far as to evoke the Third Reich, which was seen as a veiled reference to the US.
