New Delhi: An X-ray has revealed that Manchester United veteran midfielder Ryan Giggs has fractured his arm and will be out of action for a period of four weeks, the club confirmed.
The 36-year-old sustained the injury during Wednesday evening's 1-1 tie with Aston Villa. He was brought off the field in the 74th minute following a clash with Villa midfielder Steve Sidwell, and was duly sent to hospital.
The two-time Champions League winner will now be absent from the club's crucial round of 16 knock-out tie with Serie A side AC Milan; the first leg is scheduled for Tuesday February 16. He will also likely miss the Carling Cup final on February 28, but could be fit for the return leg against the Rossoneri at Old Trafford on March 10.
A statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Ryan Giggs will be out of action for up to four weeks after suffering a fracture to his right arm against Aston Villa."
United confirmed on Thursday that Giggs is facing a month on the sidelines, meaning he'll miss the Carling Cup final [but] will hope to return for the home leg of the Champions League tie against AC Milan.
Sir Alex Ferguson said at the time: "It [Giggs' arm] is very painful but hopefully he is going to be all right."
Ferguson's midfield has been depleted further for the coming weeks as Nani will serve a suspension following his recent sending off. Owen Hargreaves remains out of action, so too is John O'Shea who will unlikely return this season. Serbian stopper Nemanja Vidic, however, could be fit for Tuesday's trip to the Giuseppe Meazza.
