Mumbai: After giving long reigning saas bahu soaps a run for their money with innovative programming, Viacom 18's general entertainment channel Colors has set yet another milestone. The nine-month-old channel has emerged the number one channel ending Star Plus' nine-year reign at the top spot.

According to the Week 15 GRPs Colors tops the list of Hindi GECs with a GRP of 292 - 25 points ahead of Star Plus who stands second with a 267 GRP.

Zee TV, NDTV Imagine and Sony Entertainment Television follow at numbers three, four and five respectively.

Launched in July 2008, Colors made its mark with celebrity-driven reality shows like Khatron Ke Khiladi and Bigg Boss2, while shows like Balika Vadhu and Jai Shri Krishna with child actors emerged as trend setters.

“There was viewer fatigue and we brought in a breath of fresh air. Balika Vadhu worked for us. Fear Factor got us an audience and Bigg Boss maintained it,” Programming Head, Colors, Ashvini Yardi said.

The second edition of Akshay Kumar's Khatron Ke Khiladi is already in the pipeline with 13 ladies and lots more action. It surely doesn't get any more colourful than this!
