New Delhi: The latest Shiv Sena attack on Sachin Tendulkar is that he plays for BCCI and must not claim to be playing for India. Sena MP Sanjay Raut said this even as the Mumbai police continues to search for his brother Sunil Raut for being allegedly involved in the attack on the IBN network.
When Sachin publicly said a week ago that Mumbai belongs to all Indians, little would the Master Blaster have realised that he would set off a chain reaction.
Writing in a supplement of the Shiv Sena mouth piece Saamna, MP Sanjay Raut says, "Sachin may be a big cricketer, but he is not bigger than Maharashtra. Sachin has not sacrificed his life for the country like Lokmanya Tilak, Bhagat Singh and Rajguru. He's never helped any other Marathi players or even friends like Vinod Kambli, unlike Sunil Gavaskar who's helped several Maharashtrian players. Sachin plays for the BCCI and not for India."
Raut had reportedly justified the attacks on IBN network offices in Mumbai and Pune when he said they were spontaneous.
Raut seems to be following what party supremo Bal Thackerey had begun by asking Sachin to stick to cricket and not make political statements. But the Sena supremo has drawn flak from all quarters for the stand.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh said in Indore that Thackeray is not above the law of the land.
