Bangalore: Sachin Tendulkar may not be playing against Bangladesh but he is all set to keep youngsters excited with his escapades against aliens. By August, a comic book series is due featuring Sachin the Master Blaster.
Jeevan Kang has been doing up new characters for many years but what he's creating now is something special; making a He-Man out of Sachin Tendulkar. That's right, Sachin is soon going to be a superhero.
"He's given this blade of the masters which gives him a suit of armour, with which he performs his superhuman feats. But he has to play well in the field for the suit to perform," Virgin Comics Illustrator Jeevan Kang says.
Virgin Comics, which created characters like the Indian Spiderman, Devi and the Snake-Woman, is now waiting to unleash the Master Blaster series. This monthly comic will hit the stands by August.
"Sachin is a legend. Cricket as a genre is going to keep people excited. It's only about story-lines. It gives tips to upcoming players and about Sachin's experiences. So its' going to be an interesting product. At the end of the day, it's not just a comic, it's about a superhero and the real Sachin and Sachin's tips," Virgin Comics President Suresh Seetharaman explains.
And what will Sachin do? Wield the bat against the baddies of course.
"There will be do-or-die matches, you know, against alients or against invaders from the history, invaders from the future. There will be do or die matches which settle the score," Jeevan Kang adds.
Comics meant imaginary, mythological characters, but not anymore. In a few months, comics will also be about real people. And this particular series will be about how Sachin gathers a team of 11 to play against aliens to save the earth.
Who knows, next, comics could be about Amitabh Bachchan or Lalu Prasad.
