Saif hospitalised after chest pain

New Delhi: Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan admitted to Leelavati hospital in Mumbai on Sunday after complaints of chest pain. He has been admitted to ICU.

Saif's sister Soha and other family members were present at the hospital as angiography was done.

He was rehearsing for an awards function when the incident took place.

Saif won Star Dust Awards for best performance in a negative role for Omkara. This was the awards function he was to perform at.

Meanwhile Leelavati Hospital sources said Saif is out of danger, but kept him under supervision.

Many film stars and eminent film personalities reached Leelavati to meet Saif.

"It is nothing serious. It is only a precautionary measure that he has been admitted," said Director Sudheer Mishra.

Saif recently gave up smoking and joined an anti-tobacco campaign. He has started drinking a lot of water to give up cigarettes.

He described smoking as disgusting and said it was ''a killer,'' but said he was unsure how long he would be able to keep away from cigarettes.

Health experts say teenagers who watch films in which stars smoke are three times more likely to try smoking, and those whose favorite stars light up on screen are 16 times more likely to have positive attitudes toward smoking.

A World Health Organisation (WHO) survey of tobacco use in movies made by India's massive, prolific Hindi-language film industry – dubbed ''Bollywood'' – showed that more than 76 per cent of its most popular films in 1991 to 2002 depicted some sort of tobacco use, mostly cigarettes.

The WHO says tobacco claims 5 million lives a year. According to government statistics, more than 800,000 Indians die each year from smoking-related illnesses.
