Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala High Court on Friday directed the Centre to inform it of the steps being taken to rescue a sailor who has been held hostage by Somali pirates since September 2010. Sailor TB Unnikrishnan was the Second Officer of MT Asphalt Venture, that was hijacked by pirates on September 28, 2010.
The court passed the order following a petition by the sailor's wife who had challenged the Centre's stand that it will not negotiate with the pirates.
MT Asphalt Venture was hijacked along with its crew members who were detained in Somalia by the pirates.
