New Delhi: Speaking exclusively to CNN-IBN, India's badminton ace and world No. 3 Saina Nehwal on Saturday clarified comments she made earlier on India's preparedness for the upcoming October 3-14 Commonwealth Games (CWG), saying "it's really not a good statement from my side."
Saina had expressed doubts over India's capability to hold big sporting events.
"Looking at the stadiums and looking at the progress, I don't really think we are capable of holding such big tournaments because, you know, I have seen many Games like the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and Olympic Games in Beijing. Compared to that, it's not up to the mark," she had said on the sidelines of a function at Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy.
Saina later clarified herself speaking to CNN-IBN. "I want to take back my statement. I am very, very sorry about it," she said apologising for her earlier remarks.
"Being a brand ambassador, it's not good to say such things," said Saina, admitting that "players should focus on their game."
Saina Nehwal - who recently dropped to No. 3 in the world after losing in the quarterfinals of the World Badminton Championships in Paris - will lead India's medal hopes in badminton in the CWG.
