New Delhi: First the black buck and now the Amer Fort. Maybe Bollywood actor Salman Khan needs to stay out of Rajasthan. For, every Khan visit to the desert state spells disaster in some form.
Four days after the Rajasthan High Court stopped the shooting of Khan's Veer in Amer Fort, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Ambika Soni wants an investigation into the damage done to the four hundred year old structure.
Soni said, "The national commission on heritage sites has been set up. They will investigate the matter.''
Seemingly tough words from the union minister. But there is actually little that the Centre can do to help.
The 16th century monument is not protected under the Archaoelogical Survey of India (ASI) and is not listed as national heritage.
The fort falls under the jurisdiction of the state government. And conservation, restoration and management of the fort is the state's job. A job it failed to do.
Even if the Centre's notice to the state manages a response, punishments in this case is a maximum of Rs 500 for damage done.
Reports now point out that other than the wall collapse of February 13, the unit of Veer also drilled holes in the fort to prop up a set. For sure, this is too glaring an evidence of damaging heritage beyond repair.
