New Delhi: If marrying outside the caste is a crime so is marrying within the same caste.
While in one Haryana village, panchayat awarded death sentence to a couple for marrying outside of their caste, in UP's Bulandhshahr the panchayat penalised a couple for marrying within their own caste.
Anita and Manoj ran away from their homes to get married.
The panchayat of their village and the girl’s family said it was a crime as both are from the same caste and gotra.
According to the family and Hindu traditions, being from the same gotra makes the couple brother and sister.
Anita's outraged family has announced a reward of Rs 50,000 to anyone giving information about the runaway couple.
As a punishment, the panchayat has even cut water supply to Manoj's home.
