Jammu: Showing concerns over the immediate militancy and infiltrators related problem faced by the administration and people of Jammu, the Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti has called off its Wednesday evening rally.

The group spearheading the agitation in Jammu for the re-transfer of land to Amarnath shrine board had planned a public rally at the Parade grounds in Jammu.

BJP leaders Rajnath Singh and L K Advani were scheduled to speak at the forum. The rally was also to reiterate the Samiti's demand for removal of the Governor NN Vohra and police officials who used excessive force to curb the violence.

They have however decided to call it off as the more pressing issue of flushing out the militants holed up in civilian areas of Jammu.

The Sangharsh Samiti leaders said that they took the step based on the request of the authorities.

As the gun battle with the militants raged, two army men, two civilians and a militant had died by Wednesday afternoon.

The militants had invaded houses in the area and taken five hostages, four of whom are children.

The Amarnath Sangharsh Samiti leader Naresh Padha informed that the decision was taken collectively in view of the operation.

At least five others have been reported injured as army combats the militants who had infiltrated from across the border at Akhnoor under the cover of firing from the Pakistani side.
