Sania out of Australian Open singles event

Melbourne: Sania Mirza failed to go past the first round in women's singles in the Australian Open on Tuesday in Melbourne.

Sania crashed out of the tournament in straight sets 4-6, 2-6 to her French opponent and 27th seed Aravani Rezai.

The Indian tennis player failed to offer any resistance to Aravani and surrendered tamely.

She has never gone past the third round in the women's singles at the Australian Open.

It was the third time that Sania faced Aravani in an International tournament with the French player winning two of the three matches.

Earlier, the Sania versus Aravani match was rescheduled for Tuesday as rains forced postponement of their first round match.

Sania was the only Indian competing in the singles main draw of the hard court Slam as Somdev Devvarman, Prakash Amritraj and Yuki Bhambri failed to get into the men's singles main draw.
