New Delhi: India's women's challenge at the Wimbledon finally came to a grinding halt when Sania Mirza left the All England courts after losing in the second round of the mixed doubles along with Mahesh Bhupathi on Thursday.
After being knocked out of the women's singles and doubles, Sania and Bhupathi were beaten in the second round by the ninth seeded pair of Marcin Matkowski of Poland and Cara Black of Zimbabwe quite comfortably.
Sania and Mahesh lost in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Sania returned to top-flight tennis after a two and half month lay-off due to injury.
Sania made a second round exit from the singles at the hands of Nadia Petrova, while partnering Shahar Peer of Israel, Sania lost in the second round as well.
