Sanjay gets breather from TADA

CNN-IBN

Mumbai: Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt got a breather from the TADA court on Tuesday as his bail hearing was deferred till December 21.

While Dutt stepped out of his car outside the TADA Court on Tuesday, his fear seemed evident the day might just put an end to his freedom. Dutt hugged his friend Ajay Marwah and others before walking into the court.

"Today the court has extended the time granted to Sanjay Dutt till December 21, that is when his bail application will be heard," Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said on Tuesday.

Sanjay appeared to be in a daze as he walked out of court clearly unable to believe his luck. He is likely to apply for relief under the Probation of Offenders Act (1958). Under the provisions of this act—if an offender has not been found guilty of offences that attract death penalty or a life sentence, and has consistently displayed good conduct—the judge can let him off on probation with a mild warning.

However the prosecution is determined not to give up without a tough fight. "We will definitely oppose it if he applies for the benefit of the Probation of Offenders Act," Ujjwal Nikam said.

All eyes are now on 21st December when Dutt along with Kersi Adejenia and Rusi Mulla co-accused facing related charges will appeal for bail.
