Mumbai: Ace cinematographer Santosh Sivan is ready with his new directorial venture, Tahaan - A boy with a grenade. The director talks about his latest film which is to release soon.
Santosh's latest film Tahaan - A boy with a grenade may sound peculiar, but don’t go by the title as the filmmaker says it's a fable about a boy and his donkey.
"Tahaan is actually the name of a boy and story is actually a fable about a boy and his donkey. The donkey is the boy's friend and when he gets separated from the animal, the boy makes a journey to him back. And since it's a land of conflict he comes through various incidents," says Santosh.
Fresh from the success of his first English film Before the Rains set in Kerala.
Santosh now pans his camera to Kashmir, the violence ridden state becomes the background for Tahaan.
The film includes Anupam Kher, Rahul Bose, Sarika and Rahul Khanna besides the eight-year-old Purav Bhandare.
"What I like about Purab is that one doesn't have to underline what one has to say. And I like the expression in his eyes. He's able to communicate a lot and also he's very natural," he says.
Tahaan - a boy with a grenade is scheduled for a September release
