Ahmedabad: It was one of the most bitterly contested polls in Gujarat, a high pitched campaign as the star campaigners criss-crossed the state.
After the last vote has been cast, poll pundits juggled with electoral arithmetic. The satta market is through with its calculations and the BJP, punters say has the edge.
“According to us, 90 seats are safe for the BJP and it could be 100 too. For the Congress, about 60 seats are safe but 70 is a bit difficult,” says a bookie.
For a Rs 100 bet on the BJP crossing the half way mark and getting a simple majority, the satta market is offering just Rs 10, which means the punters expect it to be the most likely outcome in the elections.
The return increases to almost 55 times this sum for anyone putting his bet on BJP repeating its 2002 performance, which is getting more than 125 seats.
Punters have put Congress' chance of getting anywhere near a simple majority as very slim.
Bookies are paying seven times the amount one bets in favour of the Congress getting a simple majority. It’s clear that the bets are stacked heavily in favour of the BJP.
The ballot machines will open on December 23 when counting of votes takes place in Gujarat.
For the moment, satta bazaar rates almost conform most of the exit polls in the state.
