Ahmedabad: In a dramatic last-day swing in the satta bazar, bookies there have swung suddenly against Narendra Modi. In fact 24 hours before the vote count, they now give Congress the edge over Modi in the race for power.
In what is seen as a dip in confidence on the BJP in the satta market, the bookies now say there is a positive vote swing towards the Congress. It is, however, not clear if this vote swing will be enough for the Congress to come to power.
As the moment of reckoning arrives, a lot of people in the state feel that the Congress has a very strong chance this time around. Till the day of the polls, nobody was ready to look beyond the aura created by Modi in the state. But political observers now feel that there is a fair chance that young Congress stalwarts like Bharat Solanki will turn the tide in favour of the Congress this time around.
A number of people also suggest that it's not going to be an absolutely clean sweep for the BJP. There is a chance that many BJP rebels, who contested the elections in large numbers, could return triumphant creating a good possibility for the Congress to form the government.
Earlier, CNN-IBN had reported that the satta rates were in favour of the BJP in Gujarat, but since Friday evening winds are blowing in favour of the Congress, which has now emerged as the bookies' favourite.
Ten days back, no one was even betting for 90 seats for the Congress while today the rate is Rs 6.50 for 90 seats. Rates for the BJP have marginally decreased as of Friday.
Earlier for 90 seats in favour of the BJP, it was 25 paise; while today it is 15 paise. These rates indicate that there is a fair chance that the state may get a hung Assembly though people are still betting on BJP winning by a narrow margin.
