Saturday morning political fever: Parties try to woo MPs

New Delhi: Rendezvous and tete-a-tetes, a hint of a new political romance between Mayawat and the Left - which may not have exactly been clear in the 15 minute phone conversation between Left leader A B Bardhan and the BSP supremo - and Chandrababu Naidu's meeting with Mayawati where he said he does not mind projecting her as the prime ministerial candidate in case an interim government is formed if the UPA fails to win the trust vote.

This was the Saturday political fever for India.

It was Bardhan waltzing with Chandrababu Naidu, then Omar Abdullah's foxtrot with Sonia Gandhi and the whole of CPI(M) Central Committee singing in an angry chorus at A K Gopalan Bhavan.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi secured a pledge from her MPs one-by-one and then to cap it all, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and JD(S) leader, H D Deve Gowda were caught in a political embrace.

In the midst of all this, JMM's Shibu Soren wouldn't dance to the tune of the UPA but his MPs had already mastered the steps. It was a Congress choreography directed from 10 Janpath even as independent MPs were watching the action scene from their hideouts.

But at the end of the day, everybody was still making phone calls and sending out olive branches.

Leader of the Opposition LK Advani was trying to get back Dharmendra from Los Angeles, while Sonia Gandhi, of course, had the chance to summon Govinda.

But it was still not clear who had the numbers and so there are going to many political dinners on Sunday - Manmohan Singh, LK Advani and Chandrababu Naidu are all hosting one each. However, the real political Twenty20 will begin on Monday, when parties start finally declaring their allegiances.
