TDP alleges YSR govt favoured Maytas Infra

New Delhi: The Satyam Computer crises, billed as corporate India’s biggest fraud, is beginning to see a political fallout.

Opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh have now cornered the YS Rajasekhara Reddy government for allegedly favouring Maytas Infra, which is promoted by Satyam’s disgraced founder B Ramalinga Raju's sons.

Telugu Desam Party has demanded a white paper on the prestigious infrastructure projects awarded to Maytas by the state government.

Joining the chorus are parties like the CPI, BJP and Chiranjeevi's Prajya Rajyam, who are demanding the confiscation of the properties held by the Satyam family.

"All the properties held by Satyam family directly or in Benami names should be confiscated. A task force should be appointed to enquire into the failure of regulatory mechanisms and possible frauds by similarly placed companies using the regulators loopholes," N Chandrababu Naidu said.

The fact that it took three days to arrest Raju after he owned up to inflating Satyam’s account books to tune of over Rs 7,000 crore, has raised questions over whether the government was shielding the corporate head.

Asking the government to come clear on the matter, the opposition parties have also asked for a high-level probe against Raju and Chief Minister Reddy

Coming down heavily on Reddy, Naidu said, “I am asking the Chief Minister, have you not given projects like Hyderabad Metro, irrigation projects and several others to Maytas?"

Reddy, however, has rubbished the allegations and has ordered a probe by the Crime Branch CID.

Deputy General Secretary of CPI, S Sudhakar Reddy, demanded that all allotments and projects awarded to Maytas be cancelled immediately.

Meanwhile, investigations into the Satyam fraud are gathering momentum. The Raju brothers — Ramalinga Raju and his brother Rama Raju —spent Saturday night at the Central Guda Jail.

Satyam's Chief Financial Officer S Vadlamani, who was arrested on Saturday evening, will be produced before a magistrate on Sunday.

Seen as a key accomplice, Vadlamani has been charged with criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery, among others.

Sources tell CNN-IBN that more top management executives are under probe for their role in the scam.

Satyam auditors Pricewaterhouse have been given 21 days to file their response.
