Satyam focuses on sports as a sector

Satyam, the Hyderbad-based software company is taking soccer to a new level.

The company launched the national campus football challenge.

Satyam expects to turnaround its BPO operations this financial.

The BPO business saw its revenues slump about 33 per cent from Rs 72.96 crore in the March quarter to Rs 48.97 crore in the June 2008 quarter.

It also recorded a loss of Rs 21.9 crore in June versus a profit of Rs 1.55 crore in the March quarter.

Founder & Chairman Satyam Computer Services – BPO, B Ramalinga Raju said, “We are looking to growing the business there. The proportion of business we are deriving out of process level responsibility and transaction level responsibility has been growing as compared to just voice level.”

Satyam is one of the official sponsors for FIFA World Cup in 2010 and 2014.

The company will be developing the core IT event management system, accommodation and hospitality management, as well as local organizing committees.

The company is now betting big on sports as a segment.

Raju said, “In absolute terms, we expect this to grow and make an important contribution and add a lot of investor value as much as we are hopeful that we will add great deal of value at the customer level as well, so it is going to be an important sector for us.”

Satyam is expecting a further slowdown from the US market. It is looking at setting up development centers in Asia, Australia and Brazil to grow its markets in these regions.
