Satyam letter proves costly for students

Bangalore: Srinivas and his friends have been waiting more than a year for their dream jobs to come alive. These engineering graduates got job offers from Satyam during campus placements.

But the scam has now made their future uncertain. “The government is showing concern for 53,000 employees but what about the future of employees waiting to join. I want to tell them, even we exist, our voices should be heard,” says Srinivas.

Says another candidate, Vinay, “They first called in June and told us to get ready our provisional certificates, pan cards. From June to November, they kept in touch with us. After that, nothing”.

There are 6,000 to 7,000 such offer letters given out during campus placements across the country in late 2007. If they are kept waiting three more months, the graduates of 2009 will become the new 'freshers' and these students will lose that status.

They'll neither be freshers nor have any experience. The salary offers were among the best in the industry. Some of them have now lost hope and have started working with BPOs

About 5,800 of these students have formed online communities to stand united and the more desperate ones are turning to God.
