Satyam probe an eyewash, Raju's questions 'too easy'

New Delhi: With just two days left for the police custody of Ramalinga Raju to end, Network 18 learns that the CID interrogation of Satyam promoter Raju and his top management is an eye wash.

Sources say the CID has been laidback in the interrogation of the Raju brothers and the ex-CFO Srinivas Vadlamani.

In fact the 198 primary questions framed by the CID relate to his confession letter with most of the questions being in Yes or No format. Among the questions are.

-- Why did you write the letter?

-- Whom all did you consult before writing the letter?

-- Why did you name your brother?

-- When was the first time when you inflated the figures in balance sheet?

-- You have mentioned that you arranged Rs.1230 crore for the company. How did you do that?

As expected Raju's replied to most of these questions has either been "I don’t know" or "I don’t remember”.

But the accusations do not end there. The credentials of the CID DSP N Balaji Rao are also under the scanner.

In a 2007 judgement where the Andhra Pradesh Congress president Keshava Rao's son Venkat was accused, the judge had accused Rao of collecting evidence in favour of the accused.

The ruling said, "This type of investigation and the collection of material is not expected from the CID police, a premier investigating agency".

So as the investigation enters its last phase, investors are left in the lurch thinking whether the interrogation in India's biggest corporate fraud is headed no here.
