Kolkata: The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee is down with the SEZ flu while cricketer Saurav Ganguly is out of the upcoming Bangladesh ODI series.
However, it was an opportunity both of them didn’t want to lose. Bhattacharjee and Ganguly shared the same platform for a common cause on Sunday- children’s health care.
The politician and the player now seem to be looking up to a common cause for survival- the industrialisation of West Bengal.
Bhattacharjee spoke profusely about Ganguly’s keen interest in the state's industrialisation. And it was hardly an occasion to bring up the topic.
“I congratulate Sourav for his contribution. He is always eager to help the government. He is very enthusiastic about industrialisation and he says that children are our future and we should protect them. I admire his vision. I have seen many players but no one comes forward like Sourav. I thank him,” said Bhattacharjee.
Sourav had donated Rs 76 lakh for the new annex building of the hospital, which he is proud of today. He praised the new facilities and hoped it would contribute to children's healthcare in the state.
“I am proud that from now onwards children will get optimum treatment from this hospital. They are our future,” said Ganguly.
Maybe Ganguly is looking beyond his career in cricket while Bhattacharjee is trying to use Ganguly’s popularity for smoothening the path of SEZs.
However, the cricketer should follow the new team manager and involve himself in 'shastrialisation' fast to earn a place in the forthcoming England tour rather than thinking about Bengal’s industrialisation.
