New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked the Centre to firm up its plans on the deadly chemical endosulfan. The apex court sought a report from the Centre and asked it if it has decided to ban or permit the usage of endosulfan.
Thousands of people have been affected due to to endosulfan poisoning, especially in Kerala. According to the Supreme Court, a blanket ban or permission - both will create a crisis.
Endosulfan has been banned globally by the Stockholm Convention. India reportedly accounts for nearly 70 per cent of the world's production and consumption of endosulfan.
