New Delhi: Another attempt to get a stay against the Delhi High Court judgement decriminalising gay sex between two consenting adults drew a blank as the Supreme Court on Monday declined to stay the High Court judgement dated July 2 this year.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam, however, issued notices to the Centre and Naz Foundation on the application seeking stay of the operation of the impugned judgement till final disposal of the petition filed by S K Tijarawala, private secretary to yoga guru Baba Ramdev and a Christian organisation, Apostolic Churches Alliance.
The apex court tagged the two petitions along with the petition which is already pending in the court and coming up for hearing on September 11.
The contention of the counsel for the petitioner was that the impugned judgement if not stayed will have disastrous consequences for the society.
